Frequently Asked Questions

What are partial dentures?

Partial dentures are used to fill any gaps left by missing teeth. At Smiles and More we offer acrylic partial dentures, flexible partial dentures or chrome/metal partial dentures which can be used to replace single teeth or several missing teeth.

What is the process?

For patients with their own natural teeth, requiring a single tooth or partial dentures, we need a treatment plan made in conjunction with a dentist. This ensures that your remaining teeth are healthy and can support a denture without any problems. We can help you with this process if you don’t have a dentist or you would prefer to see one of our recommended local dentists instead.

Once your treatment plan is in place, we can offer you a free consultation to discuss options for replacing any missing teeth.

There are then usually 3 to 4 appointments needed to gather the information required to make your dentures. Each appointment is painless, and involves capturing more information about your teeth, gums and smile. This determines where we place the denture teeth to make them look as naturally beautiful as possible.

Can I speed up the process?

Yes. Various express services are available at an additional cost.

At Smiles and More this can be in as little as 24 hours if your situation demands. If you don’t need dentures within a day, but need them in either 1 week, 2 weeks or 3 weeks, then these options are also available. Are partial dentures comfortable?

Most patients get used to wearing partial dentures within a couple of weeks. Although they may feel strange at first, the benefits in terms of speaking, eating, your appearance and confidence outweigh any short adaptation period by allowing our patients to feel great again.

What maintenance is required?

Your gums may change shape over time which may require you to have new dentures made to fit the shape of your mouth over time. However, in some cases, a visit to our clinic to adjust your dentures will solve the issue and increase the length of time in between needing new dentures.

How do I clean my partial denture?

Just as with complete dentures, your partial denture will need to be removed, brushed and cleaned every day to remove any plaque or food remanence, and help to prevent stains. Remember to be careful when cleaning so as not to damage any clasps.

We do not advise use of toothpaste on a partial or complete denture, as this can roughen the surface gloss making the denture feel rougher and more likely to pick up bacteria and staining.

In most cases plain soap and warm water twice daily is the best way to maintain your denture cleanliness. Additional cleaning is required specific to the type of denture worn. See our denture cleaning section for more information on our cost effective cleaning service provided here at Smiles & More.
